Make A Stand Pledge

The Make A Stand pledge was developed in June 2018 by the Chartered Institute of Housing in partnership with Women's Aid and the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance. The purpose of the pledge is to encourage housing organisations to become more aware and committed to support people who experience domestic abuse.

Millions of people experience domestic abuse every year and two women are killed by their partner or ex-partner every week. Housing organisations house and employ millions of people across the UK and that means we house and employ many thousands of people affected by domestic abuse.

The pledge gives housing organisations the opportunity to sign up to make four focused, but easily deliverable commitments to provide support for people experiencing domestic abuse.

What is Domestic Abuse?

Domestic abuse can include but is not limited to;

  • Coercive Control (a pattern of intimidation, degradation, isolation and control with the use or threat of physical or sexual violence)
  • Psychological and/or emotional abuse
  • Physical or sexual abuse
  • Financial or economic abuse
  • Harassment and stalking
  • Online or digital abuse

If some of this sounds familiar to your own situation, further information can be provided here.
