Warm Home Discount 2026/27
You may be eligible for a £150 Warm Home Discount if you receive Pension Credit or certain low-income benefits, with some households qualifying automatically and others needing to apply. The discount is a one-off £150 reduction on your electricity bill, or on your gas bill if your supplier provides both and you are eligible
Eligibility Groups
Core Group (Automatic Payment):
You qualify automatically if you receive Pension Credit Guarantee Credit and your energy supplier participates in the scheme
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) identifies eligible recipients and applies the discount directly to your electricity or gas account.
You do not need to apply if you are in this group, and the discount is usually applied between October and March
Broader Group (Application Required):
Households on low incomes receiving qualifying benefits such as Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, ESA, JSA, Income Support, Pension Credit Savings Credit, or certain Tax Credits may qualify
Key dates
23 August 2026: Qualifying day
October 2026: Warm Home Discount scheme opens
31 March 2027: Deadline for the discount to have been applied to energy bills
You must have a live electricity supply at the time the payment is issued to be eligible
Prepayment meter users can receive the discount via a voucher to top up their meter
The scheme runs annually, and eligibility is confirmed through government data matching for most households, reducing the need for applications

Which energy suppliers offer the Warm Home Discount?
Any energy supplier with more than 150,000 customers is obliged to offer the Warm Home Discount scheme to eligible groups. In addition, many smaller suppliers offer the Warm Home Discount to their customers voluntarily.
